I was 12 years old when I had Lupus. I remember my fingers were swollen, I used to get fever frequently, had horrible skin rashes, excessive hair loss and body pain. As I was still a child, I missed a lot of school since I was sick most of the time. My friends used to make fun of me and bully me because they thought Lupus and all the skin rashes were contagious. Everyone asked me to drop out of school because I was sick. I used to feel it was pointless to live this kind of life where you were always sick and I didn’t have many friends. But I don’t feel that anymore now.
It’s still very difficult for me to explain to people about what lupus is. When I tell them about it, they think its just sensitivity and skin rashes and they think its not a big deal. But Lupus is much more than that. We need to spread awareness about the disease and we need subsidized medicines as the medicines are very expensive. I used to feel that I am alone but Im happy to know about Lupus Nepal and that there are a lot of people like me.
